FAQ
Main »» General Questions| Does my swimmer need to attend evaluations? |
---
All swimmers who are new to our program, or swimmers who have not been in the previous two sessions, are REQUIRED to come to evaluations. If you do not attend evaluations, you will not be placed in the session. If you have a scheduling conflict, please contact the Swim School Coordinator (lessons@swimorcas.com) before the evaluation is scheduled.
Will my swimmer be with others of the same age and ability?
Your swimmer will definitely be with others at the same ability level. We also try to keep swimmers approximately the same age together. However, this is not always an option due to how many classes of each level we have during a particular class.
How do you determine what level my swimmer will be in?
We determine what level your swimmer is placed in at the evaluations. The swimmer gets in the water with the instructor and they evaluated the swimmers current skills. Then we place them in a level. New swimmers are all watched closely the first couple of classes to make sure they are in the correct level. If a swimmer needs to switch levels, we will move them.
Do I have to come to every lesson?
It is your decision whether or not you come to every lesson. We try to teach all the skills to all the swimmers regardless of how many lessons they are able to come to. However, it is more difficult and will take more time to learn the skills if your swimmer does not attend classes regularly.
Can I pay by lesson instead of by session?
No. You must pay the full fee for the session regardless of how many lessons you attend.
Do I pay less if my swimmer does not attend every lesson?
No. You must pay the full fee for the session regardless of how many lessons you attend.
Who should I contact if I have a question?
You can always contact the Swim School Coordinator (lessons@swimorcas.com)
I have questions about how my swimmer is doing, what should I do?
I have questions about how my swimmer is doing, what should I do? You can either talk to your swimmer’s instructor before or after class, or you can e-mail the Swim School Coordinator (lessons@swimorcas.com).
How will I be notified of schedule changes or other announcements?
The only way we contact families is by e-mail. Make sure to print your e-mail address clearly on the registration form!
Do you allow make-up lessons?
The OrcaKids Swim School does not allow any make-up sessions for missed classes! We try very hard to keep our class sizes small. It is not fair to the other swimmers to increase their class size in order to allow another student to make-up a class. Still, we try our best to teach all of the skills to everyone, regardless of how often they attend class. Please keep in mind, however, that consistently coming to class is the best way to advance.
What should I do during my swimmer’s lessons?
This is really up to you. We do not allow parents sitting next to the pool. Please sit in the bleachers upstairs, or the bleachers near the deep end of the pool. You are also not required to stay during the lesson at all. Many parents run errands during this time. Just make sure you are back on time so your child does not have to wait for you.
How does my swimmer advance levels? Can they do this anytime during the session?
Your swimmer will advance levels once they can complete all the skills in their level. The skills must be done correctly and done well in order to advance. We do not typically move swimmers up to the next level until the end of the session. However, if it is warranted, we will make the move during the session.
What happens when my swimmer graduates from the OrcaKids Swim School?
Graduating swimmers may choose to continue their swimming in the developmental program of the Rochester Swim Club Orcas. There is a parent meeting for graduates several weeks prior to the end of the session.
